What is Parent University

By offering a series of free courses, this innovative program allows parents to access the tools they need to help their children reach their full potential. Courses offered during the 2015-2016 school year included Understanding ADD/ADHD, Computer Technology and specialized Boys & Girls Summits.

Parent University Goals

Throughout the country, school districts have implemented programs similar to Parent University in order to:

  • Increase parental involvement and participation in schools,
  • Allow parents an opportunity to network with professionals and other parents
  • Help parents develop the skills needed to implement positive parenting practices,
  • Empower parents to become effective advocates for their children,
  • Strengthen home-school-community partnerships,
  • Equip parents with the knowledge and awareness of resources available to them.

Past Events

Girls Summit

The 5th Annual Girls summit was held at Charleston County School of the Arts on Saturday March 5th, 2016 from 9:00 AM - 2:00 PM. The event featured a keynote session, leadership academies, panel discussions and much more.

From Boyz to Gentlemen Summit

The 7th Annual Boy's Summit featured a Keynote presentation from Mr. Raphael James of Live 5 News. The day addressed issues towards closing the achievement gap and included lunch and door prizes. Resources were provided for parents and students.

Behavioral Wellness

On Saturday, November 7th as the Office of Community Outreach hosted a special Parent University date that focused on issues which affect Behavioral Wellness. Information was available regarding ADD/ADHD and Mental Well-being.

Back to School Kickoff

On September 26, 2015 the Parent University, Back to School Kickoff event was hosted at R.B. Stall High School. Superintendent Postlewait offered a greeting and an interactive Q&A session. The day focused on how to help students have a successful school year.
