Thank you for visiting Charleston County School District

Charleston County School District (CCSD) is the second largest school system in South Carolina representing a unique blend of urban, suburban, and rural schools that span 1,000 square miles of coastal lands.

CCSD serves approximately 45,000 students in 80 schools and several specialized programs.

In May 2012, CCSD released Charleston Achieving Excellence: Vision 2016. This next phase of the district's strategic plan is built on what has been working so that we can aim higher and place a laser-like focus on closing the achievement gap. It has established bold achievement goals with annual targets, all aimed at transforming the lives of our students and future of our community.

WHAT'S HAPPENING

Voluntary Transfers for the 2014-2015 School Year
CCSD has been one of the foremost leaders in the development of choice options for parents and guardians. One of the options is provided through what is called the voluntary transfer. A voluntary transfer is an opportunity to request that a child attend a school that does not serve their normal school of residential location. There have been important changes made to the policy as well as the manner in which voluntary transfers are handled.

The BRIDGE Framework: achieving the VISION
That’s why CCSD is committed to investing time and resources to offer educators the support and growth opportunities they need to accelerate learning for all students. Over the past few years, CCSD has experienced significant progress. We continue to build upon that foundation of success and improvement with our Vision 2016 plan, and are motivated to push ourselves even further for long-term success.

We were fortunate to have been awarded Race to the Top District and Teacher Incentive Fund (TIF) grants. This funding provides us the opportunity to accelerate our work and deliver on the goals outlined in Vision 2016.

CCSD's Personal Mastery Initiative
Every student deserves an education personalized to his/her unique needs.
Charleston County School District is the recipient of one of only sixteen Race to the Top-District grants from the United States Department of Education. As a national grantee, CCSD was awarded $19.4 million to transform learning, and teacher and student achievement, through personalized learning in our schools. With this funding, CCSD is supporting the development of a Personal Mastery system in 19 schools with the vision of expanding this work to schools across the district.

CCSD's Teacher of the Month
Each month during the school year CCSD leaders surprise a new Teacher of the Month with a framed award and prize package in recognition of them making a profound and positive difference in the lives of children. Teacher of the Month Nomination Form - Nominate your favorite teacher today!
